The Rev. Dr. Keith Copeland, Transitional Senior Pastor
Pastor Keith was born in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.A. in Finance. After graduating from college he worked in management with Eckerd Drugs before answering the call to ministry. He graduated from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 1992 and has served three congregations as the settled pastor and 10 congregations as interim in three different denominations. Trained as an interim pastor in the Presbyterian Church, he received his D Min from Hood Theological Seminary with special focus on church renewal. Since then, he has been developing processes and tools for congregational renewal during times of transition between an installed pastor. He is married to Cheris Copeland, and has one son who is in his first year of study at United Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, PA.
Patrick Matthews, Director of Music
Patrick Matthews has been involved at Christ The King for over thirty years. Not only does Pat direct the Senior Choir and Bell Choir, but also, he oversees the entire music program of the congregation. Under Pat's leadership, Christ the King has developed a reputation in the community for fine music, featuring everything from an annual Christmas Cantata, to the Music Inside/Out concert series held each March. Pat began his musical career at age seven and has sung professionally with choirs, opera companies, musical theater, and chamber groups. Further, he was a music and chorus teacher in Miami-Dade county schools for forty years.
Kristin Nylen, Ministry Associate
Kristin Nylen serves as a Ministry Associate at Christ the King, with oversight of the Sunday school, Confirmation and Youth Program ministries. Kristin grew up in a small town outside Boston, MA., where she earned a Bachelor’s in Psychology and embarked on her first career in the field of Criminal Justice. Having relocated to south Florida many years ago, Kristin has served both the State of Florida, and then the federal government as a probation officer. She retired from the United States Probation Office in 2011, to begin her second career in ministry, and will be studying for her M.Div. through the online Distance Learning program at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN. Kristin’s daughter is also attending college, at Valencia College in Orlando, FL. In her free time, Kristin enjoys kayaking, gardening, beekeeping and relaxing with her three cats and small dog.
Bill Hildebrandt, Organist
Bill took the position of church organist at Ascension Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio at the age of thirteen. Since then, he has served as organist or organist choirmaster in Congregational, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Unitarian and Syrian Orthodox churches. His position prior to joining Christ the King was as a chapel organist at St. Philips Episcopal Cathedral in Atlanta, GA. Bill served as organist accompanist for the University of Miami choral program playing for them in the American premier of the Desinclos Requiem. He has also participated in the International Festival of Sacred Music at the Vatican and has sung with choirs on stage at Carnegie Hall and accompanied a local high school choir there as well.
David J. Cruz, MT-BC, Director of Music for Youth
David is native to Miami, Florida. He attended the University of Miami where he received a dual degree in Music Education and Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology. He is currently a music teacher at South Miami Senior High School of the Arts where he directs the magnet orchestra, chorus, theater, and music theory class. He is an active member of the Florida Vocal Association, Florida Orchestra Association, American Music Therapy Association, and American Eurythmics Society. His hobbies include traveling, playing music, attending concerts, and cooking.
Derek Fairholm, Contemporary Music Coordinator and Sound System Coordinator
Derek Fairholm is the keyboardist and music coordinator for Christ the King's early service. He also leads Kairos, CTK's contemporary band. Derek's other responsibilities include management of the church's sound equipment and its volunteer Sound/Tech Team. Derek is an accomplished performer and composer. He has formed several bands focused on interpreting Jazz standards and original compositions. A consummate pianist, Derek also performs regularly at various venues in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. Derek holds a B.M. in Jazz Performance from the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
Mayra Aguilar, Office Administrator
Mayra keeps the office running smoothly—she’s the person behind the friendly voice that greets you when you call on weekdays, and she prepares all the bulletins and newsletters. She and her husband Carlos enjoy the Keys and spending time with family. Mayra has both a gift and a passion for decorating and party planning—whether it’s preparing delicious sweets, creating a gorgeous table spread, or organizing a birthday party or baby shower. Though originally from Cuba, Miami has been her home for most of her life.
Andrew Pocock, Business Manager
Andrew serves as Christ the King's Business Manager. With 15 years of experience in working with churches and other nonprofit organizations, he brings a wealth of expertise in the areas of accounting, insurance, church administration, and program development. As such, all rely on his strong research skills and attention to detail. Andrew graduated from Trinity University in Florida, with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and has a successful business consulting with local community nonprofits. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and working outside in the yard.
Robert Carter, Sexton
No job is too big or too small for Robert, who has been with Christ the King nearly 20 years. Robert is at church on Sundays and throughout the week, and you can find him busy with everything from fixing sprinklers, to setting up for events, to assisting a member with heavy boxes. Robert’s work is his calling. He is a graduate of Palmetto Senior High and had Mrs. Doris Ludder, wife of the founding pastor of Christ the King, as his guidance counselor. He served in the Army; is a former National Guard Recruiter and was licensed in private investigation. He and his wife have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. In his spare time, Robert lifts weights and coaches wrestling.
Loretta Midgette, Child Care
Loretta has worked for CTK for many years and takes a lot of pride in her very important work. Holding the smallest hands, wiping away tears, and rocking babies to sleep in her arms she is beloved by both children and parents. She is professionally trained in the field of early childhood education and family services.
