Serve the Congregation
Assist with Worship
Ushers distribute bulletins and other special materials and guide people in finding a seat before the service begins. During the service, ushers count the attendance, conduct the collection of the offering, and assist members and visitors during communion.
Altar Guild members, operating behind the scenes, are an important part of Christ The King. Working in pairs for an entire month, guild members are responsible for preparing the altar before services and changing the altar paraments according to the church season. To be sure, holiday times are the busiest, but members find great joy in preparing the sanctuary for festival worship.
Order of St. John
Open to all youth that are in 6th grade or higher, the Order of St. John serves as altar servers, crucifiers, acolytes, and on some occasions Bible and torch carriers. The Order of St. John meets on occasions in the youth room. Twice a year they assist with stuffing the church service bulletins.
Volunteer musicians, including vocalists and instrumentalists are an essential part of the worship experience. There are no auditions for volunteer musicians -- all are welcome to join CTK's musical ensembles. See the music page for more information.
Readers and Assisting Ministers
Both Readers and Assisting Ministers read the scripture lessons during the worship services and occasionally lead the responsive reading of the Psalm between the two lessons. Assisting Ministers will also assist the pastor with reading the prayers and other parts of the liturgy, Both roles assist the pastor in the distribution of communion during church services.
Greeters welcome and assist members and visitors as they enter and exit the sanctuary before and after church services.
Sanctuary volunteers neaten up in the Sanctuary on Monday or Tuesday following worship. They refresh the pew holders and check supplies, but do not do actual “cleaning” except once or twice a year when the entire group meets and does deep cleaning. Scheduled volunteers usually work once a quarter.
