Adult Growth Opportunities
Sunday Adult Education
The group meets on Sunday mornings at 9:00am in classroom #11, except during the summer. Led by CTK members, and Diakonia graduates, Phil Whitley and Scott Simmons, the group explores what it means to be a Lutheran Christian today and many of the challenges and paradoxes of following the way of Jesus in contempoary life. Although the sessions are guided by a book or other text, this is a highly participatory group. For more information on this group, please visit the Sunday Adult Education webpage.
Led by Pastor Katie, Martha's Mondays is a women‘s book club that meets as announced on the third Monday of the month at 7:30pm. Book selections can be from either religious or secular genres, yet all relate in some way to matters of faith and meaning. Please check church calendar for the next club meeting.
Wednesday Bible Study
Pastor Katie leads a Bible study that is held in the Red Room from noon -1:00 pm throughout the year. All are welcome to attend. Please check church calendar for exact dates of the studies.
Diakonia is a two-year program of study for lay leaders who wish to deepen their faith and their knowledge of Lutheran theology, Scripture, and Christian discipleship. CTK is the host for the Miami-Dade Diakonia program which is open to members of congregations throughout Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. For more information on the program, check out the Diakonia website.
Do you love to play bridge or want to learn how to? The Bridge club meets twice a month. Make sure to call the church office ahead of time to find out days and time so that the bridge club makes sure they have an even number of players.
Do you love to knit or interested in learning how? An example of a Knit Wit project is creating blankets for the Linus Group which provides homemade blankets to children in local hospitals. Knit Wits meets twice a month.
Attitudes about Aging
Christ the King has teamed up with Samaritan Counseling Centers to offer a luncheon series for women, designed to promote healthy attitudes toward aging. Past speakers have presented on topics ranging from nutrition, to personal safety, to communication skills, to fashion. Women from throughout the community attend the "AAA" lunch programs.
